Paws for a Cause: Support for a fallen State Trooper
7/21/08 UPDATE: Trooper Blanton's premature son Tye is now over three pounds and is being weaned off of the respirator. The benefit motorcyle ride that Chuck Marsh rode in brough in around $22,000 for the family, $13,000 of which came from your help! THANK YOU!
As you know, 93.1 The Wolf and the Wake Up with the Wolf Show are ALL ABOUT our men and women in uniform! This is a stance that our staff has had from day #1, not because it’s the “COOL” thing to do these days, but because we love this country and any one who will stand up and protect this way of life we all hold so near and dear.
On June 17th 2008 NC State Trooper David Shawn Blanton Jr was killed while making what he thought to be a routine traffic stop Edwardo Wong II, of Ormond Beach, Fla. Wong has been charged was charged with the first-degree murder of Trooper David Shawn Blanton Jr. as well as several other charges.
I’d like to first apologize to those of you who were listening on Tuesday morning when I broke down on the air talking about this, but this story just breaks my heart and makes me fightin’ mad at the same time! I have friends with NC Highway Patrol who tell me that Trooper Blanton had just gotten married and his wife Michaela had just given birth to their little boy named Tye who is fighting for his life (He was born 7 weeks premature). Tye is still listed in critical condition and has to have a heart surgery when he gets o 5 pounds. The medical cost and the on going care cost will be huge to say the least.
I plead up on the Wolf Nation to help this family…let’s wrap our arms around this little boy!!! I will be riding from here to the Asheville area to ride in a charity ride for the family and I would love to send a BIG HOWL OF RESPECT to the Blanton family from the Wolf family in the way of a large cash donation to help with Tye’s medical costs!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your outpouring of financial and moral support Friday during our 12 hour marathon broadcast! You raised $13,000 and some change for the Blanton family! Chuck Marsh from The Wake Up With The Wolf Show took the money to the Blanton family Saturday, amidst 4600 motorcycles in the Asheville area. If you couldn't make it out to Costco Friday, but you'd still like to help, there are still many ways to help out below.
A memorial fund has been set up for Blanton's son at the North Carolina State Employees Credit Union.
