A note from our very good friend Debbie Lavoie about an upcoming military blood drive:
Tuesday is the Armed Services Blood Program Drive from 11-7 at the Legion Hall on Miller Street (Winston-Salem), the blood collected is directly shipped to the combat hospitals in Afghanistan and Iraq for our soldiers health and well being. Donors NEEDED!! Walk in or email me with a time you want to come in (lean.on.me.now@gmail.com).
It takes a minimum of 17 units of blood to stabilize a soldier who has lost a limb to a roadside bomb or IED so he/she can be transported to appropriate care; a soldier in danger of losing two limbs can use up to 34 units...now do the math - four soldiers in one vehicle...it takes a lot.
Second fact....for every soldier you read/hear of/know family of that is killed in action, there are approximately 10-15 soldiers injured severe enough to be hospitalized who are patched up and put BACK into service...
Third and last...the NG Armory on Silas Creek Parkway is deploying over the spring/summer as transport support troops so if you think this isn't affecting you or your neighbors you are so very very very wrong...those of you with active family in the military come show your support, give your time, give a pint, and do something bigger than yourself.

After more than two years of our friend Barbara Hannon at Printing Partners having to bug us, we finally have published "Words to Live By, Volume I." Thanks to Barbara, Bryan and Bonnie for donating the time and materials to make this project possible! The whole staff at Printing Partners has worked tirelessly and we both thank you for it.
If you'd like a copy, we're suggesting a $10 donation which will go to help some friends of the Wolf who are in dire need this Christmas season. There are 365 stories we've collected from e-mails sent in by many of you. And as one of our long-time listeners put it, "It's the perfect Christmas gift for anyone!"
"Words to Live By, Volume I" is available NOW -- but quantities are limited! We'd love to see you at one of our upcoming "book tour" stops:
Friday 12/10 from 11:30am-1:30pm at Walmart on Peters Creek Parkway South in Winston-Salem. Monday 12/13 from 4:30-6:30pm at Shoppes on Main in downtown Thomasville.(Stay tuned...we're working on other locations, too!)

OK, so we admit it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. And as the Wolf Gang LOUDLY reminded us this morning, you can't please everyone. But please don't hate us for trying! We DO take personally everything our friends say. That's just who we are. We'd be lying if we said we didn't want everybody to listen to the show.
The reason for cancelling today's Words to Live By was because of an e-mail Leanne got Wednesday from a listener named Keith. Don't worry... because of your overwhelming response, we've reconsidered-- and Words to Live By WILL be back at its regular time, 7:43am weekdays, from now on.
For those of you who may have missed Keith's e-mail when Leanne read it on the show today, here's what he said-- as he wrote it and in its entirety:
Let me preface what I am about to say. I drive my kids to school each morning. We tune in to the Wolf first. We will change stations when commercials and commentary come on because we wnt music not talk, but when Words to Live by comes on we will not change the station because it is usually uplifting. with that said I may not be able to express how angry I am right now. I usually come home from dropping the kids off and catch a few extra winks before starting work. Today I am so angry I couldn't do that. I cannot believe you would read such B.S. as you did today. It is obvious that the person who wrote that piece was not a fan of sports. I question whether the idiot really stood in line and watched 2 kids shivering in just soccer uniforms while mom was bundled up and warm. I take my kids out on Thanksgiving and we play a Turkey bowl. We spend lots of time together on the sports field. We also spend time together off the sports field. I and most other parents don't live vicariously through our kids sports, but rather take prode in their accomplishments and growth. If we are going to talk about something that does take time away from the family, let's talk about the TV. My family probably watches too much TV like most Americans, but we don't waste our time on the Soaps or reality TV. If you want to live by your Words to Live by, stop promoting the reality shows the next morning doing recaps. Tell the people to get off their tales and do family activities then. take your kids to dance, music, thearter, or sports. Go play games or to the park. I would bet that you would not be upset if Nascar had a race on Mother's day and your family gave you a present of tickets to the race. why should we worry about what other's do with their life. I bet they are happy not like the SAP that wrote this piece of .... I have turned you off for the day. I am not sure what I will do tomorrow on our ride to school. I am sure we will listen to the music, but I don't think I will listen to what used to be an enjoyable and uplifting few minutes for my family. Well I hope you get the idea about how angry I am. This really doesn't come close to expressing my anger at that segment. I have been a loyal listener for years. If i can't listen any other time. I make sure I catch you in the morning and the National Anthem at Noon. I would say keep up the good work, but you really have a lot to do to get there now. So I will say try to regain your high level of standards. When your words to live by puts something good down to make its point, then it is really is not Words to Live by any more is it? Keith
