Why Scotty won't be at the Grammys
Scotty McCreery could probably go the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next month if he wanted to...but he doesn't.

Our favorite American Idol has decided to be on the other side of the country that night for a breast cancer fundraiser.

The seventh annual HOOPS 4 HOPE women's basketball game at N.C. State University will be held February 12th in Reynolds Coliseum and Scotty will be a featured part of the activities. N.C. State will take on ACC rival Wake Forest at 5pm and the game will be televised live on ESPN2.

Want to go? Doors will open at 3pm. General Admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth 17 and under. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Click HERE to buy tickets online.

The HOOPS 4 HOPE game was started by Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow, and is designed to bring awareness and hope in the fight against breast cancer.

Diabetic for a Day
altText
Here is the Diabetic for a Day plan suggested by Karen Hall on the Sunday WUWTW Show:

Place a rubber band on your wrist as soon as you wake up – this will symbolize your blood glucose meter and shots or insulin pump for the day. You may not eat or drink unless instructed, but you may drink sugar-free or diet drinks (or water) at any time. You must follow this plan to the tee or it will result in such things as low blood sugar, fainting, vomiting, headache or worse… coma, loss of limb, loss of eyesight, kidney failure…

Wake up: Time to check your blood sugar. Snap your rubber band. Your blood sugar is a little low. You must eat a healthy breakfast with protein immediately. Snap your rubber band afterwards to give yourself a meal bolus.

8:00am: Feeling a little odd. Snap y our rubber band to check your blood sugar. Oops. Must have bolused too much for breakfast. Need to eat a small snack.

8:30am: Time for a recheck to make sure your blood sugar has rebounded. Snap your rubber band. Good job! Your snack did the job!

11:00am: Check your blood sugar before lunch. Snap your rubber band. Blood sugar is good. Eat a lunch that is between 45 – 60 carbohydrates. Snap your rubber band to give yourself a meal bolus.

12:30pm: P.E. time! Do some sort of exercise.

1:00pm: Check your blood sugar post-exercise. Snap your rubber band. Uh-oh. You must have over-done yourself. You need a sugary snack or drink to bring up your low blood sugar!

1:30pm: Time for a recheck. Snap your rubber band.

4:00pm: You have been sedentary for a while – time to check your blood sugar. Snap your rubber band.

6:00pm: Time for dinner. Snap your rubber band to check your blood sugar before eating. Blood sugar is elevated. Snap your rubber band to give yourself a correction bolus. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating. Then, eat a low carbohydrate dinner (30 – 45 carbs). Snap your rubber band to give yourself a meal bolus.

9:00pm: Snap your rubber band to check your blood sugar. Blood sugar is still elevated. You must change out your insulin pump. Snap your rubber band two times – once for the change and once for the correction bolus.

10:00pm: Check your blood sugar before bed. Snap your rubber band. Have a low carb snack such as cheese, peanut butter, or peanuts.

2:00am: Wake up to check your blood sugar. Snap your rubber band. Blood sugar is slightly low. Have a small snack of about 12 – 15 carbohydrates.

You did it!!!!! Just think – if you were a type one diabetic, you could wake up and do it all over again… except with needles!
